I am abusing authority right now. I have the pen and your attention and I clearly am saying nothing of importance at this minute, I am abusing my authority. If you stop reading you will go around all day wondering what else was in this little booklet, so you are now drawn in to seeing what I will write next! Imagine that, who would have thought I could/would do such a thing.
Many people abuse authority. Company bosses and managers too often treat employees like second class citizens simply because they can.
It's dumb because they are decreasing the performance of their own work force by lowering morale, motivation and decreasing employee loyalty. This means that their company is less stable and less profitable.
It's also sad. It's sad because if they were employees, (as most once were) they wouldn't stand for it. It's also sad because as humans, our thinking should be on a different level.
We should have a desire to treat each other better. We should want to make a positive difference in people's lives when we are in the position to do so. Once you have an established profitable business there are many ways to do this. Being a good and thoughtful boss is one way. Abusing your authority is not.
If you are working in this type of environment, you really need to be looking at your options for being able to switch jobs.
I mean if you take it and laugh that is one thing, but if you are stressed, depressed, embarrassed, humiliated etc.... you need to be considering your options. Yes, I know we are still in a recession! (Ok, recovering from a recession for some.)
I'm saying, start planning and plotting on a bailout from that company!
Maybe additional training in the evening or on weekends can help you qualify for something else in less than a year. You shouldn't quit or do anything foolish to cause a problem for yourself, but you shouldn't be regretting going to work everyday without a plan of one day escaping.
That is all I'm saying. Too many people stay where they are unhappy and spend precious time and energy complaining but don't spend 1 hour researching other opportunities and options for changing the course of their lives.
By the way,
If you are being straight up harassed, you also need to be taking notes of every occurrence. Document with times and dates. Seek the advice of EEOC, an attorney, etc. check this site also www.can my boss do that.com (yeah really! Lol it's a great site)
However, none of this was the abuse of authority that I had in mind. LOL.
What about the police who act like a fool when they stop someone instead of talking people treating them like respectable citizens?
Then again, I talk to some people, and I can't help but to realize some folks really have an attitude problem. Although police are the professionals and have the burden of showing more restraint...the people they encounter too often are NOT respectable citizens.
What I mean they will have an attitude because the man is doing his job! I want to know just how many people could take what police go through and maintain professionalism?
(No I was never the police. But this bothers me, give me a sec.)
Think about this.....
The culture (maybe including you even!) often talks negatively about the police. Lumping ALL of them in the same category. We call them names like pigs, crooked cops and worst.
Sometimes this is done while talking to kids. Sometimes these put downs may not be said to kids but in conversation with other adults, while in the presences of kids, which is no better. They are immature and learning from what they are exposed to.
In their minds after hearing this type of talk, a picture has been painted. The police to them now seems like the bad guys. They are crooked, no good opportunist and deserve no respect from citizens and especially in the hood.
Because of this, they have fear in their hearts in association with the police. Protect and serve is not what comes to mind.
This is the foundation of many youth. It is because of adults.
Now, as those same youth age while being more and more exposed to entertainment, they will not only see that message continued but magnified. Bad guys are cool, cops are bad. Cops are in the way of what the cool guys wants to do. Sell drugs, have fun, steal cars, gang bang, get high, etc....
(You do realize that the lifestyles the youth see glamorized is not the clean cut smart guy but street smart thug don't you? So, the more unprepared a parent is to parent, the more likely this image is what the child emulates in many cases.)
In music, their favorite artists will teach the same destructive concepts about life which includes....“Cops are bad and keeping me from having fun and doing what I want to do.”
(Also, F@$* the police. Be hard. Sell drugs. Get Money, etc...)
Even news media will subliminally allude to the criminal being done wrong or the officer being in the wrong, while reporting incidents where the police had to act and someone gets hurt.
Now; when this teen/young adult is pulled over or approached on the street by a police officer, what do you think his/her attitude is going to be toward the police officer? Pleasant? Peaceful? Cooperative? Not exactly. Youth have been taught the police are evil. He/she might even run from the police!
People we have created this problem. SOME police don't help but we as society need to wake up and do better.
You are the officer. This teen or young adult is dressed like his/her idols (like popular culture put it that way). Red eyes, acting irrational. Getting tensed up or talking smart. Maybe he/she tries to run. Anyone with half a brain knows what entertainment glamorizes and knows what many teens and young adults do and the things they think is cool and how they feel about the police.
I didn't get too specific on appearance, location and other things to keep you from wasting time crying profiling.
Anyway.....Since this person, (teen - adult), who ever the person is.....if this person does not respond to the request or being approached by a police officer like a normal(average) law abiding citizen would know to do....it raises questions.
The main question is why? What this suspicious behavior?
Could be high on Meth or guilty of something else. You were approaching the person for a reason in the first place remember.
The problem is You don't KNOW why he/she is acting this way. You DO know this behavior is NOT normal. Common sense and deductive reasoning tells you that something is not right and you MUST do something. Or will you just let the ill behavior go and assume, “oh, this person just didn't get the proper guidance as a youth and this is how it is expressed.”
No. Because you don't KNOW. You have to act in a way to safeguard your life and possibly the lives of those around you.
You might have to use a little force. You might have do be a little rough, you might have to be a little proactive. So now I ask you.......would that be an abuse of authority when the cop tries to subdue an erratic person who resists, tries to get away and refuses to cooperate? Or, is it a split second difficult decision in a touch situation to do what is safe and required by the job. I don't know. I am just asking a question.
I can tell you this. You couldn't pay me enough to be a police officer today. Society just doesn't appreciate cops enough in my eyes, I think it is pathetic.
Organizations will jump at the defense of anyone who is arrested for any reason as long as they can make it look like the police are wrong. Whether it is true or not.
And sometimes they know better just like the race card issue but that is another topic for another day.
So I wonder how many good cops do nothing for fear of being criminalized themselves if they actually try to do a good job?
Look, my point is we have to stop pretending as if all cops are evil, corrupt, and up to no good, especially in front of our
youth. (Talking recklessly about all police for example)
We also need to have a proactive talk to our kids about how to interact with the police because of what I mentioned about how negatively the police are portrayed outside of the home and in media. (and maybe inside of the home too!)
As adults, we also need to check our own attitudes when interacting with the police.
I have been violated and wrongly accused by a police officer just as many others have, that doesn't mean I have the right to go and act ignorant and stupid toward every cop that I encounter. Whether I am in the right or wrong. In most cases to do so would not lead to a happy outcome.
Don't provoke use of authority and call it abuse of authority.
That's all I have to say about that, what else do you have to say? What about our youth and the police. Does he/she have a proper perspective?
What's your opinion about the police?
What's wrong with me, am I just a cop lover or do you see any validity in my perspective on the issue?

Our Health Chapter 2 part 2
I just looked at the back of a little chocolate candy bar at the counter in the truck stop. That thing has 60 percent of the daily RDA for Saturated fat in each serving. How many people look at the ingredients in the back of this stuff so they can regulate what and how much they consume.
That's not what I want to talk about anyway. LOL
Why is it such a bad thing that schools will not be allowed to serve as much junk for food? Why does that make some people mad? Truth of the matter is schools should definitely have healthier foods and less or none of the junk, including what's in the snack machine.
The reason that it shouldn't be such a big deal is because they should be eating healthier at home and school should be simply mimicking that.
Problem no. 1. That's not what is happening in most homes.
Oh oh. (Bout to piss some parents off now.)
Why do so many parents at home still serve so much junk to their kids? Soda, cakes, cookies, ice cream; well, you know what junk is. I am not talking about abolishing everything. Allow some stuff, as a treat or reward for good behavior or great achievements not snacking. I am talking about their meals also. Too many happy meals will eventually create a sad reality.
Listen I know that eating healthier CAN be expensive when taken to extremes but why would I be talking about going to extremes. That's just an excuse to resist change.
I am just saying eat more beans, brown rice, oat meal, and grits instead of fast food, pizza, or other fad food is not all that expensive.
The middle class consumes the most fast food not poor people.
You have many options, stop making excuses.
People living in poverty consume a lot of junk, partially because of problems making it to the real grocery stores to buy real food so they go to the corner store where the highest prices are. Instead of paying those prices they buy cheaper junk food.
Try teaming up with other families or save what you can and take the bus, cab, or ask a friend or family member to take you to buy groceries. There are countless ways to make it happen.
I have seen first hand how people in the hood make things happen. If you want something bad enough you can make it happen. The problem is that it is easier to make excuses than to make changes. I acknowledge an increase challenge for you to get better food at decent prices. It's not impossible.
YOU MUST DECIDE what you want for you and your children's health and let your actions reflect that. Excuses won't improve your health or save your life.
Drink water or other options instead of soda, kool-aid (talking to you Memphis) or drinks filled with sugar.
Drop the foods high in saturated fat and red meat. This would do wonders for our health. High fiber and protein diets with plenty of fruits and veggies makes our bodies operate more efficiently.
This of course enables the body to fight sickness and diseases much better. It also helps to heal and from other injuries and alleviate discomforts. So all of us should model healthy eating habits to our kids. We should also FEED them the same way.
Wasted money doing study after study after study keeps showing results that prove over and over again that veggies, fruits, nuts, grains, fiber and fish, is about as healthy as you can can consume as humans.
Instead we keep trying fad diets, surgery and pills.
Wonder what would happen to health care expenses and insurance costs for tax payers if we all collectively decided it made sense and was our responsibility to eat better and get more exercise.
Anyway, enough of that, before you stop reading.
What's say you?
Leave your comments. Are you modeling a healthy lifestyle to your kids?
What are some ideas for other parents wanting to do the same. Do you have a problem with school having healthier options? Why?
Are you making plans this year for making positive changes to do better in regards to making better choices that could have a long term positive effect on your kids? What are they?

Discussion About Health at the Barber Shop (Chapter 2 Part 1)
For those who often read my stuff, I know what you are saying....He is not going to talk about health again. Oh yes, I am briefly.
Stroke and Heart Disease. More common and deadly than some of your worst nightmares in society. Strikes more than any criminal and we always say what are the cops doing? So what are we doing. When are we going to do something about eating healthier and getting exercise?
We are like criminals to our futures. Robbing it blind of mobility, happiness, financial stability. Some of us will be afflicted seriously from the effects of diseases that we could have avoided all because we refuse to be an adult and change some bad habits.
It doesn't have to be a 180 degree turn around. Just make some better choices more often. How about an overall decision to simply make a habit of eating more healthier and exercise. Limit the amount of red meat and increase the fruit and veggies. Play basketball, or tennis or go to the gym a few times a week. That's it!
But....put specific terms to it. How much, how many times, determine which days will work best for you to exercise. Which foods do you like, will you cook or what. Maybe a group of friends will have health night together 3 times a week and chip in on healthy dinners.
Make it fun. I always tell you that creativity is what gives people the edge. It makes life shine and entrepreneurs rich. It provides solutions. That is true on so many levels in so many ways. Use creativity to help you live a healthier life.
What are the choices that you have made to live healthier?
Why are you not trying to live healthier?
When will you start?
What ways have you used to help you live healthier?
What do you think about what was written?

Set Your Family Straight - (Talk for the Barber Shop)
.......OK, didn't mean to go on about that for so long, but it is important, because you could eliminate a lot of problems by doing these simple little things and it costs so little for term life insurance. According to LIFE, 30 percent of households have no life insurance coverage at all. To calculate how much insurance you should have to cover your family expenses check out www.lifehappens.org/howmuch
Zander.com is an excellent choice if you don't have a good term life policy. Uslegalforms.com is a great option for wills.
Well OK, actually I can't leave that yet. I know a lot of people will put it off until next week and then next week and then the next week until it's 2 years later, and then they are in a car wreck and there is $5,000 in the bank for funeral expenses, house payment or rent, electric bills, the child's expenses and money for college.
Wouldn't cover expenses would it? You never know when something tragic could happen. Prepare now, not later.
Yeah, it's a tough subject to talk about. It's real life my friend, if you are reading this you are probably an adult. Wake up. Ignoring the conversation will not eliminate the pain of your loved ones. YOU will be dead so what's it to you?
Don't be selfish, make sure your loved ones can mourn your death instead of worrying about expenses.
Chances of dying........
Here are your chances of dying in different ways.......
in a car accident 1 in 18,585
in a plane crash 1 in 345,319
From a part falling off an airplane 1 in 10,000,000
From choking on food 1 in 370,035
From an explosion 1 in 107,787
From a shark attack 1 in 300,000,000
From a terrorist attack while visiting a foreign country
1 in 650,000.
From a Stroke 1 in 6
From Heart Disease 1 in 3
OK, enough of that, you get the point but notice how the odds of dying from something that we have so much control over is the highest. Stroke 1 in 6. Heart Disease 1 in 3. wow!
That's absolutely ridiculous.
So What Are We Doing.......
Comments Please. What is your opinion about insurance?
Why don't you have any? If you do why did you choose the company you did? If you know a good company to recommend to the readers after you local to your area give them a shout but say why you recommend them.
